Well, still no sign of B.B.
I’ve had a lot of people write in or comment, asking me if we’ve seen him or heard from anybody about him. He’s not at the Animal Shelter. No calls. No nothing.
Sadness.
Noah loves having a dog. I love him having a Dog. After all, it’s the next best thing to a sibling! So, perhaps I’ll start perusing the ads for a good dog who needs a good home. This time, one that can’t fit through the fence posts. I was leaning toward my dream cat, but after much thought, I think a dog fits best in our little family. Dogs rock.
B.B… I hope you’re having grand adventures, pal.

We have a half Lab half Wiemeraner ( or however you spell it lol). She's a great kids dog and I wouldn't trade my mutt for anything. Getting a dog microchipped is great as long as you're in an area that's online so to speak. We had one that was microchipped and when he ran off, every vet we calledsaid they didn't have the technology to read one in their office. Otherwise, they can be helpful.
Sorry B.B. hasn't come back. Maybe he IS having some great adventures. Maybe he'll come back when he's done having them. Hug Noah & tell him it's from everybody who loves dogs too!
My recent post The Business of Fun- Fans In Action
Get a Yellow Lab....or any kind of Lab.....great dogs for kids.
Sorry there's still no sign of BB...Make sure your next dog has a microchip...This way, when someone finds him, with or without a collar, they will still be able to trace him back to you. BTW...Get a slightly larger dog that won't fit through the cracks...Sorry Noah!
Personal choice is a Golden Retriever or part Golden. They're GREAT with kids and very loyal, but not to the point of biting. A dog that's not quite puppy & not quite adult can be trained. Another person suggested an older dog. TRUE! With the economy ass it's been, TOO MANY dogs are being surrendered to shelters because the humans lost the house. PLEASE check the shelters again and besides getting a tag before you get home, look at training at a local pet store or other local place...Come home, B.B. Noah needs you...
Sorry to hear about BB. Some dogs just don't know when they've found the good life! If my little miss went on the run I'm sure I would be totally heartbroken.
Hope he turns up soon.

I'm sorry B.B. still hasn't shown up. & I hope that Noah is OK, & I hope that he likes the next one you guys get just as much. Good luck on finding a new buddy.
So very sorry to hear about your doggy.
When I was pregnant with my son about 3.5 years ago, I came home after work to find that someone had cut our fence and taken both our German Shepard, Sadie Belle, and our first baby, a Yorkie named Cooper. Cooper was our first child. My husband's parents and my parents called him their grandchild. I stood outside calling his name for an hour. My parents and my husband's sister and brother came over to calm me while my husband looked. We never found them, though. I thought I was going to give birth right there, I was so upset.
I cried for a month, of course it was a horrible month all around, but that's 3 0r 4 other stories. Our cat, Socks left after that. She and the German Shepard were best friends (they took naps together and played) and she was lost without her. I hope that wherever they are, they're happy. But I miss them.
Good luck in finding your child or your new baby!
I hope B.B is well, wherever he is!
It's worth mentioning that you should invest in tags with your phone number and address on them. That's what I did with my little escape artist and now someone always calls when he gets out.
Terrier types are known for "getting out". They have a superior sense of smell and the smells that come across their nose are just too enticing for them not to try and go after whatever it is. They are "ratter" breeds- vermin catchers - thus, the roaming far and wide after a smell.
I, too, agree that a mutt from a shelter would be a great choice. Far less chance of someone stealing the dog or not returning it if found, if it isn't a pure breed. Give you and Noah a good book education about breed traits first, maybe. You'll have a better understanding of what type of dog will be happiest in the environment you have to offer it.
Just my 2.
Krikit ~:)
Hope that B.B. comes back ,never lose faith! My niece had a cat that annoyed her neighbor so the neighbor catnapped him and took him clear across town and dumped him. My niece was heartbroken. They put up fliers everywhere, checked all pounds, police looked at pictures of every cat that had died at shelters - nothing. Out of the blue (I think it was eight months later) a woman called them and said that she thought Jake (that's the cat's name) might be living under her porch. My brother in law took my niece and went over to take a look. it was Jake but he wouldn't come out for him. My niece got out and called to him one time and he came right out. So the moral of the story is animals are resourceful and you should keep up the hope. Still get a new dog though so Noah has a companion and if/when B.B. comes home then he'll have two!
People may think I'm strange but I think it's probably best, obviously he was not one for being kept "captive" and you would have lost many nerve wrecking hours chasing after him again, to the point where you would have ended up fed up anyway. Even if you had found a way to block everything off he would have been the miserable one. There are many loveable dogs out there that need good homes and that are not "runaways", ask a vet for advice as to the breeds that have a tendancy to run away (yes it's often genetic), you, Noah and the new dog will all be much happier.
That's so sad. I know how you feel.. I miss my Boston Terrier! :(
Good luck on the thoughts of a new one.. or better yet B.B. still could find his way back! :)
aawwwww, hope he turns up safe and sound! x
yeah. well. Cats rock harder. But it's all about personal taste, and I get that. Some people are dog people, and some people are cat people. It's just how things are. And some very special ppl, have a multi-species household, and they manage to make it work; good for y'all! But I gotta say, the cat owner vs. the dog owner in American society... it's not just about the animals themselves. Inevitably, cat owners are the benevolent introverts, the smart and the quizzical. The dog owners are outgoing, friendly, and LOYAL beyond anything. And that's how it is; how it's meant to be.
Actually, I was going to suggest a cat. I love ALL animals but seems I have had more cats than dogs. So, you have me curious too, what would the "dream cat" be like?
Does he have an ID tag with your information? Some people even have a chip with ID information placed just under their skin.
But B-B is maybe happier now... at least he got what he so much wanted!
The question is: do we "own" another being?
so sorry B.B. hasn't made an appearance :(
Dogs rock though! You are right about that!

Have you tried findtoto.com? We used it to find our bird... and it worked! You pay a fee and they send out phone calls to all your neighbors in a certain radius from your house. Hope you find your dog!
Aww :( Losing a pet whether they run off or pass away is hard. Definitely check the shelters for dogs-there are a lot of dogs there that are great dogs, but sometimes eventually get put down not because they are a bad dog, but because the shelter simply doesn't have room for them. Go save a dog's life! :)
Aww man! I totally want to cry for little Noah. Maybe a miracle will bring BB back. But (and I grew up loving cats) glad to hear that a dog is in store if it doesn't. Little boys need dogs, they offer things cats just don't. Loyalty, Unconditional love, wrestling matches...etc. My #4 child is almost 4 and he says every day I Love Z---...and then he says I love you too mommy. It doesn't bother me at all that she lists first. She gives him so much love and he is devoted to her. I am hopeful for you, and sad to read this! Definitely a dog! :)

Best of luck! Rescues are awesome. Our little girl is from a rescue. Best thing we did in 2010!
Hi Dan,
I'm very sorry for your loss and for Noah's loss of a good friend. I'm just wondering though, if waiting and processing these emotions as a family might be a good teaching opportunity? I think, and hear me out, that getting another dog so soon might be a disservice to teaching Noah about being sad, loss, etc? I thnk getting another pet is a wonderful idea, but maybe wait just a little longer? Wish you the best though!!!
Thanks,
Lara
Instead of "perusing the ads" for a new pet, please consider adopting a pet from a shelter. I work in rescue and see posts on Facebook every day of hundreds of dogs that are euthanized, all adoptable but the shelter is out of room and their time is up. It's heartbreaking.
:( That is so sad. I hope B.B. finds his way back home.
you know what's cooler than a dog? A pet fox, :D Noah would have the coolest pet on the block. http://www.sibfox.com
It is always sad to lose a pet.
I would also recommend looking at the newspaper sometimes Vets and other people will post found articles there. Also, I would check local Vet Offices .... sometimes they have people bringing them lost animals.
So sad your little B.B. is still missing. Hope that he is somewhere safe and that he finds his way home!
We found a dog today. SO far unable to locate his owner. Left emails with the radio station, newspaper, and local tv station. Hoping they put it on their website or just talk about it, something. Also put him up on craigslist. Such a great dog. Someone's missing him somewhere. He'd be perfect for you guys!
Leave messages/notices with the shelters too! (if you haven't already) People will call to check if there animal is there or has been found. Thanks!
dan- My mom has 2 great pyraneese that guard her farm, and Thursday she noticed they were gone and nowhere to be found on the propert y or surrounding area. Friday she never saw them and started calling shelters, and driving around looking for them. She kept leaving food out for them just in case, and was starting to lose hope and worrying that she didn't have enough moeny to buy another couple of dogs to guard her livestock. Then on Saturday, they just showed up. They were super muddy and tired, but they were home. I'm pretty sure they just took their first vacation in 7 years....lol.

You should look into adopting a retired Greyhound. A friend of mine has one and they make amazing family pets. She even has me interested in adopting, unfortunately I live in an apartment which doesn't allow dogs (it'll have to wait till I own a house). Luckily, I get to "use" hers occasionally for walks and cuddles when I'm sick.
And the great thing about them is that they are like a cat in a dogs body! So win-win since you wanted a cat and all..... :) Good Luck!
Awww! I'm sorry about BB!!!!
Why not a kitty for you and a doggie for Noah?
Dan, I totally feel your pain. When I got home from Mexico, I discovered that my housesitter had let my baby girl (cat) out and she hasn't been back in almost 2 months. It's like losing a member of your family. I keep dreaming about finding her, but I'm sure she's gone for good. You've still got your Noah, though.

Thats heart breaking!
Our dog trotted off once when I was a kid. The only reason we got her back was because I saw her in a neighbours front window when I was walking home one day. I went up and demanded my Maggie back!
Funny how that happens.
Good luck!

You know, there are Savannah Cats that are domesticated and can be taken home.... They love taking baths, and can get up to 40lbs.
I'll be getting one, when my little cat Peeps and her ridiculously large son bid me adieu in years to come. I think it'll be cool to walk a cat on a leash, and get double-takes! Plus- they LOVE water, will take baths/showers, and are just as affectionate as real (nice) kitties!!

I am so sorry to hear about B.B. it breaks my heart that he still hasn't turned up yet. I really hope someone has found him and he's safe or he turns up eventually. My thoughts are with you and your amazing puppy.
I must admit, I'm also pretty curious about what your "dream cat" might consist of! Please share, Dan!
(repost of an earlier reply) I've wanted a Savannah cat for ages, but they're really pricy. I was working out a deal for a trade on one, but it fell through.
Please go watch Billy Madison again, then "you get out there and find that effing dog!!!"
Good luck.
So sorry to hear he hasn't turned up. :( I'd be freaking out if I lost Chen, especially since I haven't gotten his furry little butt microchipped yet.
Good luck in your hunt, if that's hunting for B.B., or a new companion. I can say that I have a grooming customer that had a dog escape/get stolen/something from her yard before Christmas. She lives in Sevierville and Seymour, TN. The dog was found n Roane County, TN, quite a ways away!

I am a fairly new reader. I also am saddened by the fact that your B.B. has not turned up. Being the owner of 3 furpuppies, who I must add love to escape whenever possible, I completely know the heartache that you must be feeling. Every time one, or all, of them find a new way to escape it's like my heart is on pause.
I wish you luck on finding the perfect 'new addition' to your little family. It is a decision that will effect you for a while so just take your time. The way I see it, you'll know the right one at the right moment.

Why don't you try a younger dog? We've had my dog since she was a eight weeks old. I trained her and she's very balanced and happy. I'm raising a puppy for Canine Companions for Independence. They're a non-profit who give service dogs to people. They serve disabilities other than blindness (I guess they left that to Seeing Eye). I think the dogs are hearing dogs, facility dogs (they work in hospitals with patients) and skilled companion dogs. The skilled companions help people in wheelchairs with everyday life. They open doors and turn on lights and things like that.
The puppy I'm raising is really smart, even if I do say so myself. He's learning fast and he can read me like a book. I'm still not sure if I'm annoyed or happy about it. But anyway, why don't you get a younger dog? Or even an older dog? With a young one he/she is easier to train and with an older one he/she won't be hyper or intent on running away. You could also try getting a female.
