So, on Saturday night, I was hanging out with some friends, and my buddy Dave came up with the idea to recreate some classic portraits from the 80′s wearing clothes from now. It turned out to be pretty funny, so I thought I’d share the two we did of me.
Classic 80′s Portrait #1: The Laser Background
Classic 80′s Portrait #2: The three-quarter-angle pensive vignette to compliment a standard bust shot smiling photo.
Does this take you back? Do you remember these classic eighties portraits? Do you have any of yourself from way back when?
Dan Pearce, Single Dad Laughing

This is great. How did you recreate them? Looking to do this for a party.
This reminds me of those awkward family photos.. lol classic

Definitely have one of these. With the classic 80s bangs, no less. While my mother wasn't looking, I hid it far, far, faaaar back in my scrapbook. Good times.

BAHAHA These are great. There were some HORRID photos of me from the 80s and 90s that I hope to God never surface. If they do, I am going to have to go off the grid.
What about the head tilt? Every school photo I ever took wanted your chin tilted out towards the camera in this awkward "I have just been in a bad car accident and got whiplash" pose.

Uh... definitely a '90s kid here. =)

When we got married, we had a fabulous photographer. But he happened to be about a decade behind on the trends. He showed us a proof of the two of us walking down the aisle with giant sheet music for "Love Lift Us Up Where We Belong" in the background. I think I started laughing out loud. Gotta love those old school digital effects!
My recent post Disturbing
Oh do I ever remember them. My mom still has a couple like the second pose. The ones of my brothers always freaked me out. Guess I was afraid there might be clones of them somewhere. It was hard enough growing up with 2 overprotective brothers. I can't imagine growing up with 4 of them. LOL
The laser pictures were classic school pictures. Thankfully my mom didn't buy them.

I remember the lazer shots from the 80s... not the others. Not from the 80s anyway. When I was stationed in Iraq, we routinely had to comb through random documents, pictures, and other such things that had been collected. I have to say, every person in Iraq has about 50 pictures of themselves in the second pose. Lol... kind of creepy now. :P
Bahahahaha!!!! This totally made my morning. I ABSOLUTELY remember these types of portraits.
Very nicely done!

HAHAHA. That made my morning. The laser pictures are the best!

Yes, this takes me back. I don't have any myself (though I am very much the right age to have them). My oldest sister's bridal shot is the pensive vignette with a full-length shot. Come to think of it, that might have been the type of picture she and her husband used on their wedding invitations, too. From what I remember, there was a bit of overkill on that style.

I remember BEGGING my mom to let me have the laser background. She finally let me, but I think I had to bring out the tears to get her to agree. HA!
Ah, yes.... the Laser background!! Brings back some odd memories. But does anyone remember the seasonal fall Covered Bridge background from Olan Mills in the 80's? My parents have a horrible family portrait of us in front of the covered bridge with the colorful leaves from when I was about 12.... It is awful!!!
Dan, I have to say...
1. I remember those shots. Totally a child of the 80's right here.
2. I LOVE my 3rd grade picture with the 3/4 head shot and the full on... I'm not going to lie. It was the only good hair day I've had in my life.
3. Your shirt.... um, not to be too critical, but is that how you dress today? If so... (I'm asking in a sisterly sort of way) do you want to go shopping? 'Cause the shirt could use a little work. Sorry to out you about that. :)

Oh wow. Deja vu. I think I had the "reflection" picture done in 4th grade...and then of course the Glamour Shots.
Confession - I still have my circa-1995 Glamour Shot hanging on my wall. Why? Because I'm skinny in that picture, and I want to look like that again. Minus the huge hair and orange makeup.
My recent post Its growing! Its growing!
LOL I still have my glamour shots where they can be seen to, I was a total hottie!
Wo is that the same shirt and you just did something with the colors? Is it a purply shirt and the other one is just black and white?
bwahahahahahahahahaha definately the #2. I love the smiling front and then serious side. Totally was the shot. I was in elementary school and I think in second grade.
My recent post I was doing well
I totally have the lazer beam backdrop, and I'm leaning on a giant 89 block.
Not only do I have these type of pictures, but I used to work in a photo studio. I used to DO these types of pictures! Oh man, I should be ashamed of myself, shouldn't I? LOL, thanks for the laugh!
My recent post Breastfeeding in Public- Gawkers Beware
I have one of myself in the #2 shot, and I'm pretty sure there are some of my daughter in the #1 shot. LOL This does take me back.
Never saw the laser background, but I've seen the double portrait before dating back to the 60's (usually for married couples' pictures). Creeeepy.
Oh god... these bring back horrible memories...lol.
My recent post You are my EX for a reason! Part One
I don't have any pictures of me like this. I have tons of friends that do, but all of my younger portraits were done at Olan Mills. Remember that place? Every single picture is horrible. hahahaha good times.
OMG, the double portrait! Ack! I knew even as a kid that it wasn't cool. Thank God my parents thought it was awful, too.

My recent post Upping the Ante - Part II
Yeah, the portrait studio I used to work for just did the laser background a year or two ago ... seriously, it was a big seller. Eew!
That is so funny! I never got lazers or anything in my school photos....they were more expensive (an unneeded expense!) and I homeschool my children now, so we don't have the yearly school photos! But those pics you did of you are so funny! :) And you write it as 80's...but that was in the 90's too!!! :P
My recent post Quiet Thoughts
My grandma has a portrait #2 of my brother and I, only it was the early '90s. In my defense I was too young to know better... and too young to care. :D
OMGs! I remember the vignette one! There is a portrait of me as a baby and up int he corner is a vignette of my mom. XD I HATED that picture. I thought is was ugly! Thanks for making it feel amusing for me.
My recent post Yes- Im a witch And Im proud of it!
I had the laser background! Wow, memories...stone washed jeans, teased hair, high tops with slouched socks....man I'm glad I made it out of the 80's with my pride intact :)

Can't beat having your techno-savvy mom start scanning in and uploading to Facebook all of those embarrassing photos! My current fave is the summer photo from K-Mart with my siblings and my cousins. I look like I have a mullet (sigh)...
LOL--I graduated in 1994 and my senior picture was with a laser background. LOVE it!

Awesome! The laser backdrop really brings out the purple lines in your shirt. Haha!
I like my double portrait from when I was in kindergarten.
Sadly I have both of those poses somewhere in my school photos
I never had the laser photo but did have the double photo of my son when he was one - now he's 18!
Had one of each. One on a laser background (complete with black marker board) when I was in 8th grade (big bangs, permed hair, bright pink polo shirt and denim shorts). Have the double shot from much longer ago - taken at Olan Mills when I was 3.
How about the paint splattered portraits?
Or the white background with paint splatters on it. You were really lucky if you got to be on a ladder in front of said background. So rad.
My mom has a copy of a picture like that of me from eighth grade. I got to be on the ladder, because I was short. LOLOLOL. I have to find that picture.
You forgot to do the one where you're lying on the ground with head resting on your hands...

I admit it, i did this to my son when he was in his 2 year old pictures lol i still think it was cute, but then he was 2.
That laser background was the backdrop for my senior high school pictures in 1990. LOL Ah, memories.
