Hey everybody. Say hi to Krista. Five-time national champion ballroom dancer. She’s gonna be my partner on Dancing with the Stars.

Uhhh…

Utah edition.

Yeah, that’s right. You know your home state is hard up for “stars” if they’re asking awkward bloggers to come play the role.

Anyway, they have this big annual local fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and this year they thought it would be fun to do a Dancing with the Stars event. And, somebody, somewhere thought I should be part of the fun. And I’m glad because I do love dancing and I’ve always wanted to learn some proper ballroom.

Krista and I got together tonight for the first time. I apparently wasn’t quite dressed for the occasion with my casual slip-on shoes, my fancy jeans, and my button-down shirt. I also thought we were just meeting to talk about it, not to actually learn some moves.

But Krista made me jump in head first and before long we were tangoing across the dance floor.

Well, she was tangoing. I was kind of waddling around the room like a one-legged duck.

By the time I left, she had convinced me that I should invest in a hundred dollar pair of dance shoes.

Anyway, this girl is awesome. And so patient. And before the end of the evening we had settled on a half-tango half-cha cha routine for the big night. We have two weeks to prepare and after our first meeting she pretty much cleared out her calendar for me. I don’t know if that’s a compliment or a zing.

At the end of our hour together, her “real” dance partner was kind enough to snap this picture above with my phone. Thus the crappy quality. This was a move she called the… oh I don’t remember. I was too busy trying to figure out how not to fall over to listen to what she was telling me.

Regardless, the goal is to smoothly go into this move during the final performance, have a rose in my mouth at some point, and all that special stuff.

And… you’re invited. Every single one of you. It’s on February 9th.

Now, I know most of you live really far away from Utah. Don’t worry, it won’t hurt my feelings if you can’t make it. But all you Utahns… I really hope I see you there. One, I’d love to meet you after the show. Two, we gotta show everybody how awesome us bloglanders are.

Tickets are only $2 to get in, and then I go into the audience and collect as much money as possible (so at least bring a Lincoln, a Hamilton, or a Jackson for that) to find the cure for cancer. The big goal of the evening is to spread the word about the big Relay for Life walks they do each year, which I think we should all be a part of no matter where we live.

So, do me a favor Utahns, clear out your schedule on the 9th, come meet me, and come support a great cause! It’s a Thursday night, and come on… who here has not been affected by cancer somehow?

It will be held at¬†Rowland Hall-St Mark’s School located at 720 South Guardsman Way in Salt Lake City. Doors open at six. The event runs from 6:30 to 8:30.

Everybody who can’t come? Don’t worry. I’ll make sure somebody’s recording it. I mean, how often does one get to be on Dancing with the Stars?

Uhhh…

Utah Edition.

PS. I have 50 seats reserved for my readers. I need you to respond in the comments below and tell me if you can come and how many people you’ll be bringing.

PPS. I took the pleasure of looking Krista up on YouTube and found this video. Took my breath away…

If anybody can get me looking’ semi-decent on the dance floor… it may just be her.
