Your Happiness Ain’t My Happiness – The Happiness Equation

Happiness comes to us in many forms, and nothing will assure unhappiness as quickly as when you or I try to force other people into our own idea of what happiness is.

I didn’t realize how much I needed it until I got it.

Yesterday I told you all that I had hit it off really well with Brandy Girl and that it looked like she would be around for a while. Your responses left me a little floored.

I Met Someone…

You know how when you meet someone really special, you just know that they’re going to be around for a while? Well, I kind of just know that Brandy Girl is gonna be around for a while.

Chillin’ with Betty White and Danny DeVito

First of all, thanks a lot Taylor Swift for canceling the interview. You were way up the list of people I wanted to meet that weekend. Oh well. Someday. Someday... As you'll remember from yesterday's post, I went to a press junket for The Lorax toward the beginning of February. Today I wanted to share parts of the group interviews we had with the talent and creators. Now, I'm kind of a geek. Just sayin'. And when I go to these things, I'm usually more excited to hear from the directors and producers or the writers than I am the talent. It really fascinates me what drives people to make certain films, what drives them to make them the way they do, and then what drives them to a McDonald's drive-through for a grilled chicken snack wrap when they get hungry. Sorry, I've got food on the brain. Back to the post. So, we got to interview Chris Meledandri (producer) and Chris Renaud...

It Takes Two to Tango. And I Tangoed with The Lorax.

The Lorax is about to hit theaters and I got to go to an early screening. Which got me to thinking about some things...

Happiness will have to wait

Sometimes happiness has to go on the back burner for other things. Like little orange fuzzy guys with big yellow mustaches.

This is Beautiful You

Finally, my favorite post of the week! Every Saturday night I take some of the photos that you have uploaded to the Facebook wall, and I post them here. I love This is Beautiful You because it gives me (and everybody else) an incredible glimpse of who we all are. It puts a face on the awesome people coming here. It gives us a beautiful idea of the uniqueness and diversity of the followers here at SDL. More than anything, it shows all of us just how beautiful we each can be. Anyway, thank you for sharing a small part of yourselves. It’s my honor to put the spotlight on you today. This is beautiful you. Which photos made you the happiest today? If you’d like to send in photos to be considered for a future “This is beautiful you” and other future blog posts, please post them on the Facebook wall (we need lots more!). Only upload photos that you don’t mind me using, and that...

Wanna Lower the Divorce Rate? Here’s an Idea…

The divorce rate is alarming to say the least. But what if there was something we could do to turn it around? What if we look at the cause of the problems instead of the problems themselves?

The 6 Words People Making Huge Life Choices Need You to Say

Is it possible that even when our intentions are good, we're severely handicapping the people we love when they're making big decisions because we won't say these six words to them?

When Something I Write Brings Heavy Consequences

“Dan, I wanted to write and tell you that my wife read your post and decided she wants a divorce. Thanks a lot.” This was an email I received one day after writing, Whose Life is it Anyway.

International Act Like a 5-Year Old Day

It’s Noah’s birthday. He turns five today, and as I contemplate just how awesome a human being he is, I can’t help but think I should do something to honor this kid who completes me.

Does Happiness Come from Within? I’m Not So Sure.

Happiness. It seems so cliché to say that it comes from within. And so I have to wonder, do I really believe that? Or is happiness just a little more complicated than that? In a beautiful way...

Are You the Common Denominator for Unhappiness?

How many times does your life have to fall apart before you realize that you're the common denominator in all of it? And why is that such a dang beautiful thing?

The Happiness Dynamic – A 10 Day Project

In the aftermath of my post "Whose Life is it Anyway," I realized that there were many other dynamics that still need discussion. Here is a list of what's to come.

Real Dads Don’t Leave

Single Dad Ranting post today. Sometimes I get so tired of these dads who claim to be "real dads" who leave their kids. And I'm not just talking about the ones who are physically gone...
