Noah, who I’ve called Mr. Facial Expression since the day he was born, graduated preschool this week! And, in true Noah fashion, he gave me a lot of spectacularly awesome facial expressions to photograph during his bon voyage performance.
The kid gets nervous in front of large crowds and turns into a class clown. And dad gets camera happy.
- Shortly into the performance he pulled out his shootin’ finger and started having at his mom and me.
- This was one of the rare moments that he decided to sing along with the other kids.
- “I am not a crook.”
- I was so thankful someone else’s kid took over class clown for a moment.
- I think this one is my favorite of the batch. Any time the crowd would applaud, Noah would cover up his ears like it was the most horrible sound on earth!
- When they called his name, he booked it across stage to get his certificate.
Congrats on graduating preschool little man!
Dan Pearce, Single Dad Laughing
PS. how does your kid do in front of big crowds? Anybody else have a class clown for a kid?

I am just picturing you pulling these pics out for the first girlfriend. He will so hate you in that moment, yet really love you when he finds THE ONE and she gets to share in these memories. They are truly a moment in time. Love them!
And as a teacher, he is THAT KID. The one who frustrates me to no end, but at the same time fills me with awe and joy because he is so HIM. I don't know if that makes sense, but he's the kid who believes in who he is and enjoys every single moment as it is meant to be. You are lucky to have him as a son. He is lucky to have you as a dad.
My grown up now daughter had to be in every photo we ever took even if it was just her arm. Now fully grown up she is an entertainer. She sings (beautifully) and has a great accompaniest. She is living on their earnings so you can tell they are doing VERY well. Who knew when she was a little kid that would be what she'd end up doing.
He truly is his father's son ;)
man that is one CUTE KID! These pictures are classic.
Looks like you might have a kid with a performing talent. What a ham! :)
These photo's are so great, thank you for sharing them :)
Noah is totally delicious. Happy graduation!
Today was my 7yo son's Year 1 concert at school. He DESPISES being on the stage and dancing is not. his. thing. I got the best shot of all the kids dancing and Shay standing still. You know this because everyone is blurred in motion and he is crystal clear. Here's a link to the shot - Dan, I hope you don't mind. Please feel free to delete. http://wp.me/p2uEVw-38
Oh, one more thing...Does Noah want to marry my Gracie?
That's all.
Oh my! Such relief! It was like looking at my own son. Same age, same discomfort in front of an audiance, same clownish expressions! I think the two of them would get a long great... I always struggle a little bit between being proud or embarrassed. But most of the time I'm proud and appreciating his expression. And his class mates love him for it too!
I have one ham, my eldest, who was always the first to volunteer for a speaking part in school plays, stand in the front of the choir, etc. My youngest, well, this year at his second grade concert they put him in the front row, so he turned around, put his hands in his pockets and proceeded to enjoy the show. He didn't sing a note. When they were done, he clapped with the rest of the audience.

i did have dan.. he was killed instantly on June 3rd when a lady didn't see him on his motorcycle and turned left directly in front of him .. he was doing about 65 mph...he was gone immediately he did not suffer... he was the absolute BEST kid and a real clown... life of the party.. 25yrs old... this is all new too me ... i know you cherish noah .. he is precious... i loved following your page.... peace :)
haha his faces are fabulous. i love the one where the other kid has his legs up and Noah looks shocked haha
Nope! I have two shy kids. Probably has to do with the stranger danger talks we've had and what school has taught about that too.
great photos!
Do you get signed waivers from the parents of the other kids that you post all over the Internet?
My now 9 1/2 y/o boy played air guitar on the stage during his kindergarten graduation.
When he was Three my son gathered up his cousins and staged an impromptu luau for hundreds of people waiting at a Disney attraction. He got every on clapping along. The next day he stood at the turnstile and started greeting people as they came into the park being as silly as he could. At school his teacher says he is too quiet and never talks. He is a clown just not a class one lol.
Your kid is all kinds of awesome! Those are hysterical.
I love it! He is super cute and he knows it :-)
Great pics, love it!! During the end of year Kindy performance my 6yr old son was the proverbial nose picker...ahh such proud parents! He also ended with a bow but then threw out the rocker hand gesture complete with stuck out tongue expression, did I also mention he goes to a snooty private school...wow, just wow!
You realize it's a genetic predisposition right? *wink~wink*
My grandson Noah was 3. 5 at his Aunt Francesca's wedding...came time for the announcements at the reception, he marched up to the stage, grabbed the microphone, said, Attention, attention please...and proceeded to tell knock-knock jokes. Absolutely fearless!
My father gave my 5 year old son a ukelele back when he was around 3 years old, and now, whenever my father and/or I get up to play music he's right there next to us jammin on his ukelele, dancing like crazy and singing along... his favorite song is "You are my Sunshine" so cute :) He definately is a show all in itself! :)
My kids were always pretty shy at that age but I taught preschool and one our little ones racked out and danced all over the stage and at the end of the songs yelled, "Rock on, dudes!" Pretty funny!
Love the pics!
We had a visitor come to our house when my son was about three; he would run up to them point his butt at him and make a spraying sound, thnen run and hide. He was being a skunk.
what a gorgeous little boy! he is too TOO cute!!!
My 4 yr old daughter takes over any stage she can get on....even at church Sunday she had to be front and center while the kids were singing. She claims she is going to be a princess rockstar. I almost believe her...
When my daughter was in 2nd grade, the entire school did a singing performance, complete with hand movements. There was my girl, right smack dab in the front row, in the middle, with her hands squeezed tightly instead fo doing the motions and her mouth not even opening as she stared back at all 6 of us who showed up to watch....flash forward to 3rd grade: My girls were involved in a musical theater production. The one who only a year before wouldn't move on stage, was throwing her hands in the air, singing loudly, and pronouncing herself to the crowd....when she wasnt' supposed to be.
I loved those photos!
These are great & I love that if the close kids' parents took pix, he's probably adorably photobombing all of them! Hahahah!
My son at 4 loved our family tradition of saying "cheeseburgers" whenever photos are taken, so in front of a packed church in a christmas program when the cameras started flashing he yelled a new version, leaving off the cheese and pronouncing his normal "burgers" which actually sounds like "Boogers!". The crowd loved it...so of course he shouted it 7 more times while I pretended not to know him!
My Jonathan is the biggest ham ever! He's a Leo, and I mean he IS a Leo. Every year on Christmas Eve my family has the kids act out the nativity; and with 24 grandchildren my parents have lots of little actors. The first year he was in it he was a shepherd. When they got to the part where the shepherds were "sore afraid" and were "overwhelmed by the spirit"; my little clown fell over and pretended to pass out. He's weird, but since he gets it from me, and he's freaking hilarious, we let it slide. Your son is too, too cute!
I used to not be able to STAND the sound of applause! It hurt my ears!
Congrats Noah! These are awesome, Dan :) he has your smile! As the girlfriend of another "single dad laughing," I really appreciate the glimpses into similar lives. Thanks for sharing so much!
My son is hilarious, but not particularly a class clown. In fact, he hates performing and doesn't even like his picture taken. So he recently went to *my* college graduation, actually, and found it a bit disconcerting that pictures were being snapped left and right. He allowed some to be taken of him, but kept making these ridiculously overblown sh*t-eating grins or just weird faces in general. Also, occasionally, when I go through my phone's picture gallery, I'll find three or four completely crazy self portraits of him making stunningly odd and hilarious faces. I'm hoping he won't be too upset when he finds a few of them on my facebook when he's older lol
That's going to be my son in a couple years. I'm a ridiculously animated person, and my boy is only 15 months, but he's already starting to make almost as many faces as I do. Oh boy..
WOW! Talk about deja vu. It's like you're living my life!
Just glad to know I'm not the only one with an "imaginative" kid. Maybe he'll make big money with his talents when he grows up!
Ha! These are awesome! My youngest is a clown too! Love it
Your kid is obviously the cutest and best one there. But I'd say that kid with the legs gets a solid second. Awesome all around.
Not sure if you realize, but you also have a wide variety of facial expressions.
My son makes a horrible "Chandler Bing" smile for his school pictures. Its awful. I'm sure I'll look back later and laugh.
Pretty cute! My kids, though hilarious at home, were really shy in front of crowds for a LONG time. They're starting to come out of their shells and really ham things up, though, which I love. After all, their dad and I met in a comedy improv & sketch writing class.
I can't **cough cough**from you**cough cough** imagine where you got such and expressive **cough cough**from you** cough cough** kid. I could swear I have seen those expressions "*cough cough**umm on Dan's Face**cough cough** some where before **cough cough**all over the Blog**cough cough**.
I dunno.....
Congratulations to the graduate, his Dad (the pictures of the two of you are GREAT) and the soul they seem to share.....
LOL oh yeah... the shooting fingers, digging in his nose, waving to us in the crowd, yawning....and oh the faces!
Those were adorable! My little guy runs and hides so the pictures aren't nearly so fun!
