Every week I share my favorite photo from the week with as little explanation as possible , since, you know, a picture says a thousand words . Click the image to enlarge it.

Heaven and Hell. Last Friday night, this was what the mountain looked like at 2 AM. Being on the other side of the valley I found it breathtakingly strange to see a clear night’s sky above a mountain whose fire was raging dangerously close to civilization.

PS. Which emotions does this photo bring out for you?

Your persistance and patience has paid off. I wish mine would...

Your mobile version puts an ad halfway over the pic. I think it was Home Depot. Very annoying, couldn't get it to close

The mountain exploding with fire... that's called a volcano.

Fear. No question. When you can smell it, and ash falls like snow there is no other option. The images raise goosebumps and blood pressure.

I'm in the same place as HealerWomyn. It kills me to see destruction fire anywhere but the devastation I saw in the photos from the  Waldo Fire just break my heart in 2. I have friends that were on the pre-evac list and our house would have become a large evacuation center for many of my close friends. Pray for the state of Colorado too and all of those who lost their homes in these awful wildfires. They suspect Waldo was Arson and I hope they catch the person who did it!

At first, the bright red glow took my breath away, but then I realized what I was looking at, and I got a sick feeling. I thought, "how could something so beautiful be so deadly?"

I am living in the midst of hell right now.... between the High Park fire, the Boulder fire, and the Waldo fire.... our whole state is burning.... :-(

Thank you, Jessica. It looks eerily familiar to our Waldo Canyon Fire as Viki mentioned.

Niki: We have a ton of fires raging here in Utah. It's the norm for us every year. Some years are worse than others however. This being on e of the not so good years. Several of the fires here were sparked by target practicing with guns.

My first thought as to what feeling it brings out...fear

That picture is the Waldo Canyon fire here in Colorado. It is one of 10 fires that are raging in our state.

Dan, are there fires by you, too? I thought you had posted a picture of Colorado Springs until I saw it said Friday night and ours didn't start until Saturday.

Wow, that is amazing. We are also having our share of Wow moments here in Live Oak, Fl. I pray for your safety and for comfort for the families that are affected by these disasters. This photo makes me realize even in disaster there is a shining star we just have to seek it out. I say this as I am flooded in my home with 6 kids since Sunday.

To me...It shows the consistency of the heavens despite the daily chaos that man endures on earth.
