Several of my photos of The Quail Fire have now been featured on Utah ’s leading news and newspaper websites since the fire started, including on KSL’s and The Deseret New’s home pages as the headliner. That made me feel pretty damn special, and I was happy to share them.
But there were lots of other very telling, very cool photos that have been getting passed around of the fire, many from unique and awesome perspectives. Today I wanted to share some of my favorites with you. Enjoy. The coverage of this fire has been a real community undertaking.
Oh, and if you haven’t been following along, be sure to check out all of my photos, too!
- This is one of the Mormon temples. Quite a ways from the fire, but a cool picture nonetheless.
- This was taken from somewhere somewhere far South of the mountain. All of my pictures were taken either slightly South or West of the fire.
- This is quite the image. Crews must have worked REALLY hard to save this house.
- This was actually what I saw before I saw anything else. I was on the other side of the mountains in Salt Lake City when it happened. The smoke cloud was freakish to see knowing that my parents ’ home was directly underneath it.
- This fire was started by a backhoe working in the area, presumably this was taken when and where it all started.
- Another photo showing just how dangerously close the fire was getting to houses.
- Those trees are probably 50-60 feet tall. The flames are 2-4 times that height.
- This one really speaks to me.
- If I didn’t know any better, I’d have thought it was a big volcano going off.

PS. Thanks to everyone who has shared their images so openly. Of course if any of these are yours and you want either credit or for me to remove them, just let me know.

If I owned that house, I'd kiss every fireman in sight, and probably buy them a new truck. Holy crap!
This reminds me of our Kelowna Mountain Fire here in 2003. The picture with the two people looking on at the fire is so like so many that we have. I was working at McDonalds as a manager, I remember sleeping in the booths in the restaurant because we were there to feed the firefighters. We were there for 3 days, we were technically in the evacuation zone, but we were allowed to stay because we were on the far edge. We weren't allowed to leave the restaurant, so we slept there, and fed the firefighters, some of the evacuated and the volunteers. It was a real community togetherness time. We lost 240 homes that summer.
Some unbelievable shots! Brings it all more real to some of us who have been praying for these people and animals.
Am not able to unfriendly you. Can you unfriendly me?
The picture with everything charred around it is amazing. I hope & pray all those firefighters and other professionals have the strength that is required of them.
Why does my iPad always change two to..to? Lol I meant two nights ago....I have a little grammatical OCD in me. Lol
I was awake to nights ago and started reading all your posts and the story of this fire. It's really become something that matters greatly to me the past few day. And my thoughts and prayers are with you, your family, and everyone that this is affecting. I just couldn't imagine.
Very scary!! (BTW, nice new picture!)
