I date. A lot. I love meeting women, getting to know them and their own stories, and having a royal blast with them. Sometimes we’re silly. Sometimes we’re stupid. Sometimes we learn such interesting things about each other. Sometimes there is drama. Sometimes there is pain. Sometimes there is love. And in it all, things happen. Stories are created. And a fraction of those stories get told.
When I am by myself, I have my own brain to deal with. My own memories. All the crap from my life to come to grips with. I go places and do things on my own. I lie awake at night thinking about life sometimes. I work to make a living for me and my son. I work to improve myself physically, mentally, and emotionally. I deal with things, sometimes in healthy ways, sometimes in unhealthy ways. And even when I’m by myself, things happen. Stories are created. And a fraction of those stories get told.
Yes, I have stories to tell because I go out and live life whenever I can. Those who live life will always have stories to tell. I really believe that.
If all I ever did was sit behind this computer from sunup to sundown (like so many people unfortunately do), you’re right. I would have to make up stories because I wouldn’t have much to blog about at all. Thank goodness that’s not the case because I couldn’t be a blogger for long.
And on top of having more stories to tell, becoming a blogger has given me more to write about as well. It has made me tune into so much more of what is going on around me. It has made me dissect things that I never before thought about. It has helped me find humor in many of life’s moments that before I wouldn’t have paid much attention to. It has helped me realize just how much of my life is a story worth telling, for my sake and for my posterity if anything else.
All of this makes me want to ask each of you. Do you have stories to tell? Whether on a blog or around a table with your friends, do you have tales worth sharing? Do you have interesting dynamics to debate and talk about? Do you laugh? A lot? Do you cry sometimes? Do you get injured sometimes? Do you get completely worn out and worn down from time to time? Do you live a life that you don’t feel is being wasted on mundane and mindless things?
I hope so. Because life is too beautiful and too short to live it in a storyless way.
And I’d love to hear your stories today. In three paragraphs or less (a real challenge, I know), what is one of the favorite stories from your life? Funny, awesome, sad, whatever. A good story is a good story, and I’d love to listen to some of yours.
