Today we continue our quest to really learn what it takes to be the Best EVER at something.
Last week we explored the Best Boyfriend Ever and the Best Girlfriend Ever. Today, let’s explore what it takes to be the best GRANDPA ever.
How we arrive at the rules are simple. I share the photos from Instagram that have been tagged #BestEVER. Today’s tag:
And here’s how the best grandpas ever do it. So, pay attention grandpas!
Nowadays I am not a football fan (as in English football )but I used to be .Every Sunday I would watch the game with my grandad and was always amazed how he could leap so high out of the couch when we scored!!
He taught me to to ride a bike ,to love tomatoes with salt sprinkled on top ,celery too .
He sat with me for hours helping me with maths homework and making me recite the 9 times table .
He ,too would take us in his wheelbarrow (he was an avid gardener)and dance with us on his toes.
Now I'm crying !!!
#1 made me smile and remember many hours when my sister and I would "style" our grandads hair. No matter what you did to it he sat patiently and let us play. And then he'd go out with us to the park with whatever style he ended up with.
My grandpa had a great booming laugh. It was wonderful. :-) My FIL takes my daughter for a walk down through the bush whenever we stay there. My Dad threatens to take his false teeth out for his 3 granddaughters :) My Dad also takes the girls fishing with him :) Which they love :)
Thank YouSent from my iPad [email protected]
made me tear up as I remembered my great-great grandfather, great grandfather, and grandpas that I had growing up. They were the best too!
My son's "papa" is definitely one of the best. One of my favorite things he has done that shows just how fun he is: when my son was about a year or so, he loved blowing raspberries. I took a pic of him blowing some serious ones and forwarded it to my family. I about died laughing when papa sent a picture back of himself blowing raspberries back. It was sooo funny and the best response ever! One of the many many reasons we love him!!! MJ loves his papa, Paul Marander.
Thanks for this one! Just lost my grandpa last month.... But as he always said...."keep smilin, and leave em all confused!"
This makes me sad. My kids have a grandpa that lives 20 miles (and passes right by our house twice a day to and from work) from us but can't take the time out of the day to ever come and see them. See him maybe twice a year. Makes me sad because grandpas are some of the most awesome people and they will never know what it's like to have one.
Thats twice in one day you've made me cry. My papa used to cart us around in the wheel barrow. Miss him.
Rule #1 made me cry! My FIL would sit for hours letting his granddaughters style his hair. He's been gone 20 years now, but they still remember it!
I already know that my pop is the very best grandfather in the history of the whole entire universe. :)
Again, you've made me cry ! Love them all ! I think ALL grandpas are the best ! I was fortunate to live right next door to one of my grandpas so I got to see him every day. I would leave for work he was there right outside waving goodbye to me ! I miss you !
You are killin me today dan. Here I am crying again because of your posts. My dad didn't live long enough to be the awesome Opa his grandbabies could have known. I thank god my boy has my father in law to have at least one best granddad ever!!
Love #20. Also, no matter what, if a kid hands you an imaginary / play phone, you take the DAMN call!! Or else!
Wow, you made the great memories just come flooding back! My Grandpa is gone too,but forever lives in my memories! Thanks Dan, for making me bawl like a baby!! <3
My Grandad still used to wrestle with me even though he was blind aged 80 and I was in my 20's :) Sadly he passed away 12 years ago and I miss him. Me and my hubby already talk about how cool we will be as grandparents
my father insisted my kids call him "Grumpy Joe". I asked my father why he insisted on that and he said "My Grandpa was Joe, and he sucked, so I will have them call me Grumpy Joe so I don't suck as a Grandpa!" the best has to be when one of them is getting into the beginning stages of mischief: "You're thinking bad thoughts." Person, small, cute type: "I'm thinking bad thoughts."
My grandfathers are both gone(my paternal this year-long suffering WWII POW from the Pacific), and my kids will never know either the "farm" in the backyard, or the 30's-40's era tractors being rebuilt in the Garage. They won't have grandfather teaching them to not be gullible by convincing the kids that he's going to fill his deer tag on christmas eve, only to have grandma yell out "MARTIN! Are you stirring up those kids again?!" those are what I remember...a good grandpa has a mixture of a puckish humor and a teaching mind.
wow...this article really just made me realize that i do not have any grandfathers left...my maternal (and absolutely favorite) passed before he got to meet my husband and kids...i really wish he would've gotten to meet them all because i KNOW he would've loved them...and i can definitely hear him calling my youngest ornery like he did me :-) GREAT ARTICLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hah, this is awesome!!! I love the pictures!!My grandpa came to the rescue today when my tire ran flat @ the grocery store xD Called him up and he came to pump it up
I wish my grandfather (Poppy) got to meet my boys. There are so many things he's missed and I miss him so much, even after being gone nearly 20 years. He was a rough, gruff, "don't put up with anybody's 'stuff'" kind of guy but I would gladly give up my right arm to have him back, just for a day.
I love that my kids are the only grandkids in town so they get lots and lots of time with my dad. He's the best grandpa, and his magic belly has been known to put even the crankiest of babies to sleep. Thanks for sharing these Dan!! I loved the grandpa dressed up for the school report, that is so awesome....
sad but I never knew any of my 3 grandfathers... and my son only got to know his 1 grandfather for a few years... and it seems his only memory is from his furneral
my two oldest were lucky and got to meet and know MY Papa and will have memories not only of their Gramps and Pappy but great-grands too!
I hate the fact that my kids can't have this with my dad. He passed away almost 15 years ago but the pictures I have of him holding my oldest as a baby are some of my most precious possessions. He would have adored being with his grandsons.
These are so cute! That is something my kids have missed out on. I have such good memories of my great grandma, her taking me by the hand and walking to the corner store for my bag of penny candies. :)
