At least once every week (sometimes way more) I get sucked into Google, researching stuff, learning stuff, gawking at stuff. In general just wasting loads of time.
And, even though I should be, I don’t get any work done.
Most of the time, I also have no idea how I got sucked into it at all. Google is like this crazy informational vortex that sucks you in and spits you out the other side without a second thought to what you should be doing or how you should be spending your time.
And so, this week as The Farmer’s Daughter and I got sucked into debate about how old the youngest parents ever recorded must be, I realized that it doesn’t have to be lost time.
I can make a blog post out of it and turn time wasting into time working! Which is why I’m going to start a weekly afternoon series “How Google Got Me This Week.”
And what better way to start out than the youngest parents ever recorded?
My guess was that the youngest father ever recorded was 9. The Farmer’s Daughter guessed 11.
My guess for youngest mother ever was 10. Her guess was 9.
And we were wrong. According to the Google vortex, these were the youngest parents ever recorded.
Unofficial: Karl Corr. Sources say he was seven. After a lot of searching, I have found nothing official to verify this (just lots of forums and unofficial sources, none with more information than this).
Most official thing I could find: Sean Stewart from Britain.
He became a father one month after his 12th birthday. This was in 1998.
His girlfriend, Emma, was 15 when she got pregnant with their child.
They planned to stay together and raise their child. But life had other plans.
Emma left Sean six months later and is now married to another man.
And that’s all I can find about that.
On a side-note: Alfie Patten (also from Britain) became a father at 13 a couple years ago. His photo has been widely circulated around the internet as being Sean Stewart, probably because his baby face makes a more shocking photo for those getting sucked into the Google Vortex.
This one is just shocking no matter how you look at it. And sad.
Youngest mother was Lina Medina, age 5 years 7 months when she gave birth. According to Wikipedia:
Lina Medina, from the Ticrapo District of Peru, gave birth by cesarean section in Lima at age 5 1⁄2. The infant was a 2.64 kg (5.8 lb), 47.5 cm (18.7 in) boy named Gerardo. Medina’s parents, who assumed their daughter had a tumor, took her to a hospital in late March, where she was found to be 7 months pregnant. By interrogating her parents, the doctors understood that Medina had entered into precocious puberty (when hormone glands are activated earlier than normal) very early after her birth. Although Medina’s father was arrested on suspicion of sexual abuse, he was later released due to lack of evidence, and the baby’s biological father was never identified.
There is a photo of young Lina on the wiki page. Go over there to see it. It’s old and grainy but she’s nude so I’d rather not share it here.
And that is how Google sucked me in this week.

PS. what would your guesses for youngest parents ever have been?
@jcomega73 I read that he was arrested for robbery.
And now you sucked us all into the Google vortex with you... Shame on you... now excuse me while I go back and click on a bunch more crazy links and waste the rest of my evening.
my heart just breaks, so young and no chance to be a kid themselfs. Serieus why I press this story , while I actualy rather not know?
I didn't know that nobody knew who the father was. I read on WIkipedia that it was her grandfather. Desperate guy, huh?
I know a child who just graduated 8th grade. She is pregnant with child #2...yes 2 with her bf that also just graduated 8th grade.
I think it's safe to assume there was an adult around somewhere since they couldn't have their own van
When I was 19 and pregnant with my 2nd child, the youngest girl in my teen antenatal class was 12. She had twin girls. They turned 1 a few days before her 14th birthday. I was shocked when I found out, as she looked 16. No wonder she was always so quiet.
"Lina Medina, from the Ticrapo District of Peru, gave birth by cesarean section in Lima at age 5 1⁄2. The infant was a 2.64 kg (5.8 lb), 47.5 cm (18.7 in) boy named Gerardo" - from page 1 of the article...
I went to school with Emma. Lots of media attention and a creche installed in her honour. Laura (another pregnant girl) was treated like dirt however because her partner was 17.
happened to be a 15 yr old dad too whom I think it's still young was there indeed a Maury though because they're from Europe
I taught a grade 1 student who told me it was her mom's 18th birthday that coming weekend (I was subbing in the class). I doubted it but then talked to the other staff who confirmed the Kom got pregnant in grade 6 and gave birth in grade 7....just crazy. Holding hands was exciting and nerve wracking for me at that age!
I think I guessed 9 or 10 years ago. However, Google got the best of me as well and I learned all of this as well about ten years ago.
5 YEAR OLD MOTHER????? I will never understand this profound vulgarity and insanity. What kind of a monster do you have to be to rape a child... so, soooo sad :( I'm with Emily Papel... into the crawlspace you guys go.. I'm coming too. F society.
My father's friend has a child who entered puberty during infancy. It is rare, but it happens. Nowadays there are hormone shots to keep 5 year olds from really having to deal with it though.
the youngest mother part doesnt surprise me as in places like peru and middle eastern countries they secretly sell off their daughters for marriage to middle aged men at very young ages as little as 4 and 5 years old.
Umm, not many things make me go ick. But this one pegs the ick factor big time. Nope nope nope ick ick ick....
Empire news is a fake news site. http://www.snopes.com/media/notnews/pregnantbaby.asp
So today I had to travel to the great state of Mississippi. As I was walking out of the Pilot truck stop, with my 8 year old, a boy and girl no older than 10 and less than 2 inches taller than him walked out in front of me, baby carrier with newborn inside, keys in hand, and got into a minivan. Now they could have been waiting on their parents, but since it was MS I assumed the worst.
