How Google Sucked Me In This Week – The Youngest Parents Ever

At least once every week (sometimes way more) I get sucked into Google, researching stuff, learning stuff, gawking at stuff. In general just wasting loads of time.

And, even though I should be, I don’t get any work done.

Most of the time, I also have no idea how I got sucked into it at all. Google is like this crazy informational vortex that sucks you in and spits you out the other side without a second thought to what you should be doing or how you should be spending your time.

And so, this week as The Farmer’s Daughter and I got sucked into debate about how old the youngest parents ever recorded must be, I realized that it doesn’t have to be lost time.

I can make a blog post out of it and turn time wasting into time working! Which is why I’m going to start a weekly afternoon series “How Google Got Me This Week.”

And what better way to start out than the youngest parents ever recorded?

My guess was that the youngest father ever recorded was 9. The Farmer’s Daughter guessed 11.

My guess for youngest mother ever was 10. Her guess was 9.

And we were wrong. According to the Google vortex, these were the youngest parents ever recorded.

YOUNGEST FATHER:

Unofficial: Karl Corr. Sources say he was seven. After a lot of searching, I have found nothing official to verify this (just lots of forums and unofficial sources, none with more information than this).

Most official thing I could find: Sean Stewart from Britain.

He became a father one month after his 12th birthday. This was in 1998.

sean-stewart-youngest-dad

His girlfriend, Emma, was 15 when she got pregnant with their child.

They planned to stay together and raise their child. But life had other plans.

Emma left Sean six months later and is now married to another man.

Sean is in prison.

And that’s all I can find about that.

On a side-note: Alfie Patten (also from Britain) became a father at 13 a couple years ago. His photo has been widely circulated around the internet as being Sean Stewart, probably because his baby face makes a more shocking photo for those getting sucked into the Google Vortex.

alfie-patton-words-youngest-dad

YOUNGEST MOTHER:

This one is just shocking no matter how you look at it. And sad.

Youngest mother was Lina Medina, age 5 years 7 months when she gave birth. According to Wikipedia:

Lina Medina, from the Ticrapo District of Peru, gave birth by cesarean section in Lima at age 5 1⁄2. The infant was a 2.64 kg (5.8 lb), 47.5 cm (18.7 in) boy named Gerardo. Medina’s parents, who assumed their daughter had a tumor, took her to a hospital in late March, where she was found to be 7 months pregnant. By interrogating her parents, the doctors understood that Medina had entered into precocious puberty (when hormone glands are activated earlier than normal) very early after her birth. Although Medina’s father was arrested on suspicion of sexual abuse, he was later released due to lack of evidence, and the baby’s biological father was never identified.

There is a photo of young Lina on the wiki page. Go over there to see it. It’s old and grainy but she’s nude so I’d rather not share it here.

And that is how Google sucked me in this week.

PS. what would your guesses for youngest parents ever have been?

I think there a definetely a few inaccuracies with Britain's youngest father. My best mate was born with a 13 yr. Old mother and an 11 yr. old father and that was when she was born. I am also really good friends with the mother. Unfortunately the father passed away. But both were good parents. My friend is now 24yrs old.

For you complaining, seriously....why on earth would you keep reading when you figured out what the post was about. It's really evident at the beginning of the post what he's writing about. Don't blame Dan because you read it, no one made you. Jeez.......

and just my opinion, terrifying stuff. I was nervous having my children in my twenties knowing I was fully capable of caring for them. I cannot imagine the terror at that age, poor children.

I um...just...wow. I just can't form the proper words. I have a thirteen year-old and I'm now locking the door.

I went to highschool with a girl who had a baby when she was a little over 11 year old. The "boyfriend" was 12 and in 7th grade. Really sad, but the parents didn't even blink an eye at it.

We've always talked openly with our kids about babies, sex, conception, costs, consequences....at the level of their understanding, but never keeping things secret.

I don't really see how that's possible biologically for girls to be under 9-10. I know that menses are starting earlier and earlier than 5 1/2 really doesn't seem possible. Makes me question the legitimacy vs urban legend or a more "guess-timated" age if nobody is really keeping track. Seriously?

7 and 7. The youngest couple I had ever heard of for getting married (they were in Alaska I believe). I would have pegged them as the youngest parents ever.

Alfie is not the father.. it came into question days later when 16 yr old boy Tyler said he thought it could be his. DNA test revealed it was true, he would have been 15 at conception.
What's really sad is how upset  Alfie was when it came into question.... so even though he isn't a dad.. i bet someday he would be a good, loving one someday.. you know like... when he's an adult lol

Seriously, I did not understand the mechanics of sex till I was a senior in high school, and certainly didn't get a chance to put it in to practice till even later than that... 12? WOW.

The poor Alfie kid was the victim of a scam, unfortunately.

Sadly...I have heard of 5 year old mothers before :'(.  It breaks my heart! And there are families even in America who would force that little one to give birth because they're so against abortions.  It's just...madness!  :'(

This was your most disturbing post by far...leaves me wishing I never read it. What happens on google must stay on google!

Alfie turned out not to be the father - the teenage mum was cheating on him with a 16 year old....

I'm just frustrated about the Jenny McCarthy being on the View. Sick of her "doctorate" advice. She keeps up with things that have been proven not true.

that is the way it is for disabilities. We tend to look at what they can't do instead of what they can and then how to fix them instead of how to helping them reach their dreams or the max of their abilities. I know this first hand as I have a Learning disability and despite all that I can do I still find people trying to define the limit of the sky for me. Anyway that is the end of my rant for the night. ;)

I can see how this sucked you in but...There is no possible way a 5 year old can have a baby!  it would have to be the second coming of christ! ...It is physically impossible!  wikipedia is not always correct.. That photo on the wikipedia page has to be fake.. it is such a bad photo There is no way this is true.

I remember a girl when I was in the 8th grade who could not come to school on the first day because she was pregnant - so she was 12? But the 5 1/2 year old mother. MAN. My son is almost 7 and I just can NOT imagine a baby that young having a baby.

That poor little girl. I can't even imagine how scared she was. It is awful that they never knew who the father was.

@Sonja Lockman Central precocious puberty happens in 1 out of 5,000 to 20,000 kids and it's when a kid hits puberty before 8 for girls, and 9 for boys. Scary isn't it?

Supr

@Calisouthern girl It is completely possible. A girl/women must simply go through puberty in order to conceive. The girl in question likely had a hormonal imbalance or something else wrong that caused her to go through puberty at such a young age. It can happen. When I was in elementary school there was a 1st grader who had to be placed in the 6th grade health classes because she had entered puberty at 6. It's sad and likely very confusing for the child.

Soch
Soch

@Samantha McElreath She was raped.  The chance that a boy anywhere near her had a similar physical imbalance that caused early maturity is so unlikely as to be dismissed without considering it, so it must have been an adult - or at least an child enough older to know what he was doing was wrong.

mandymullins82
mandymullins82

@MarauderTheSN @JennyCampbell @mandymullins82 Well I wasn't talking about specifically her, but other 5 year olds who might get pregnant, for example in America.  I'm sure there are some households who would forbid a 5 year old to have an abortion soley because of religious beliefs.  I have a feeling I know some people who would (people I used to go to church with), and that really saddens me.
