dan-pearce-life-is-so-goodWhat we have to do, as bloggers, is change the way we deliver our content. We must change the way we entertain our readers. We must adapt.

I don’t know what the answer is for all of us. I think I know what the answer is for me and for Single Dad Laughing.

When all of these big changes started happening, I began development (through freelance developers) on a Single Dad Laughing app for iOS and Android. The goal was to make it work on all smart phones and all tablets.

Wow. I had no idea what I was getting into.

Not only is app development way more involved, time consuming, and expensive than I ever thought it would be, it is incredibly fun and exciting.

My Single Dad Laughing app evolved from a simple app in which my readers could easily be the ones to choose whether or not to view my blog posts (instead of Facebook making that choice for them), into an app with all sorts of fun sections such as The Truth Box, Weird Confessions, Bad First Date Stories, Random Facts, and SO much more, including many new sections that will be brand new to all of us. In fact, it’s turning into a very long-term project in which I plan to have dozens of incredible sections by the time the entire thing is rolled out. I am so excited.

And guess what? Advertisements on smart phone apps and tablets are still worth decent money compared to their web browser counterparts. That means, if I build something high-quality and amazing, I can keep going for as long as you all will have me. In theory, it will solve all of these recent problems that have made this whole thing so difficult.

The only major downside is that the SDL app is taking so much longer than I thought it would, and it probably won’t be done for another month or two. I just suffer from the “want it to be 100% awesome before I launch it” syndrome, so I keep delaying its release to add more cool stuff and make sure it is functioning at full throttle when you all get it.

In the meantime, I caught the app-building bug, and I’ve started work on three other apps as well. One is a game that I teamed up with Noah to invent and build. It is going to be amazingly fun, and Noah gets most of the credit for the ideas therein. The other two, well, you’ll just have to wait for them, but I’m betting you’ll love ‘em! I don’t know if they’ll be released before or after the SDL app, but I know that they’ll be fantastically fun when you get ’em!

So, dear fellow bloggers, like I said… I don’t know what the answer is for sure. I am trying this route, and I think it’s solid. It’s also very time consuming and expensive. I’m sure there are also other amazing routes and options we can create or discover. Together.

I don’t want the professional blogging world to die out. Bloggers have an incredible voice in this world, and it would be as sad as losing any other art form. So, let’s all try new things. Let’s build new platforms. Let’s take risks and jumps into the future together.

And, dear readers. Yes, you, my fantastic super peeps in SDL land. Will you go out of your way a bit and help me while I build these apps? Like and share my Single Dad Laughing links on Facebook when you see them so that Facebook shows them to others and so that I can keep making an income while I transition (starting with the link to this post)?

The future is so bright and so amazing. It’s going to be far better, and more entertaining, and so… FUN as a community.

Not one of us can do this on our own. I throw myself to your good graces, and I ask on behalf of me, and every blogger you love, to help us while we figure this out.

All my love, and all my gratitude for everything you have always given me.

Dan Pearce, Single Dad Laughing

PS. Yesterday’s post and today’s post kind of took it out of me, so tomorrow I won’t have anything new. But… jumping back in Thursday full. Steam. Ahead. See ya there.
