The Decade-Old Treasure Hunt

Noah is turning ten tomorrow. Ten years old.

I’ve been a dad for an entire decade!

I remember when Noah was just a little guy I used to see friends with 10-year-olds and think… how do I even have friends that are capable of having kids that old? Now I wonder who looks at me the same way. Ha.

Anyway, this year I wanted to do something I have never done for any of his birthday or Christmas presents. I wanted to give Noah a nice fistful of cold hard cash that he can go spend on whatever he wants.

The problem is that even though it’s the same amount of money I would have spent buying him stuff, just handing a kid cash seems like a pretty lame birthday present to me, especially when it’s such a milestone birthday. So instead, I’ve been plotting an epic riddle-driven treasure hunt throughout our home.

I’m on my way to pick him up right now. I’ll bring him home and this is what he’ll find on the fridge:

In case you need a better look:

And that’s where the riddles begin.

Now, at the time this goes live, he’ll still be minutes away from the treasure hunt, so I’m not going to give it all away. I’m sure you’re all smart enough to figure out the clues to most of them on your own, anyway. If not, well, tough toodles. How it goes, how much fun we have, and the answer to the couple of trickier ones I’m keeping between us.

These are the clues, though. On the back of each new clue he finds, I’ve clipped some cash to the card, in different denominations.

I think we’re gonna have some fun.

Ten years old.

An entire decade.

I can’t hardly believe it.

Happy Birthday, Noah Bear.
